“KRÆ” was a group project created by students at Sonic College as an introduction to film production. Writing, Shooting, and Editing a short film from Pre-Production to Post.
My role
During this project, we all had several roles. I worked as the DoP, and Gaffer, while also editing/designing the SFX, recording Field recordings, and during the final Mixing of the film.

DoP
As the Director of Photography, I was in charge of making the shortlist and operating the camera during production. KRÆ was shot on a Sony SF5 MKI using S-Log. The entire film was hand-held to give a feel of unease and imperfection.
Gaffer
Designing the floorplan and setting the lighting for the camera in between takes. I kept the lighting at a minimum because I also had the role of DoP and because space and power were limited. Using only a couple of battery-powered LED panels I focused on having enough light for the camera and still getting a green/yellow moody light.
FX Sound Editor
Editing the sound effects and placing them in the Atmos session as either objects or bed material.
Recording Sounds.
I also did the field recording returning to several locations with an ORTF stereo kit to record enough different ambiences to fill out the surround beds.
Mixing in Dolby Atmos
I mixed the shot film in Dolby Atmos using a 3-bed setup and 60 objects. The video is currently only in stereo, but I’m working on getting a binaural downmix.
